Betula utilis var. jacquemontii (Himalayan Birch) - from 6/8cm up to 8/10cm. £38 - £48
Birch trees are best known for their striking ornamental bark, and are ideal for small or medium sized gardens. Birches look effective planted on their own, but are often planted in small groups in front of dark foliage, which contrasts with the bright white bark. In autumn the green leaves turn to warm yellow colours and pendant catkins are produced. Grows best in moist, fertile soil which is well drained. Himalayan Birch has a more upright habit than Betula pendula, but the same bright, striking white bark. A popular variety for gardens. It is often grown as a multi-stemmed tree. Average height 50ft (if left unpruned).
