Betula var.septentrionalis (Chinese Red Birch) - 175/250cm
Chinese Red Birch has with unusual white and coppery coloured/orange peeling bark. It shares the same dark green leaves and slender catkins as Betula pendula. Birch trees are best known for their striking ornamental bark, and are ideal for small or medium sized gardens. Birches look effective planted on their own, but are often planted in small groups in front of dark foliage, which contrasts with the bark. In autumn the green leaves turn to warm yellow colours and pendant catkins are produced. Grows best in moist, fertile soil which is well drained.
