Picea abies (Norway Spruce)

Norway Spruce is well known as a Christmas tree, but also makes a dense, evergreen screen or windbreak. or a good specimen tree. It is a conical conifer with needle-like, dark green leaves and deep green cones that turn brown over time and hang from the branches. When planted as a specimen tree it will grow into a neat 'Christmas tree shape'. Average height 40-60ft (but slow-growing. Norway Spruce will tolerate partial shade, and windy conditions, and grows best on neutral to acid soils.

Picea omorika (Serbian Spruce)

Serbian Spruce is narrower than Norway Spruce, with graceful sweeping branches. The needles are dark green, whitish on the underside, and it produces dark cones. Average height 40ft+. Serbian Spruce is tolerant of most soils, although prefers to be sheltered from cold, drying winds.
