Chestnut (Castanea sativa)

Sweet Chestnuts (Castanea sativa) are valued for their unique foliage. Leaves are often oblong to oval in shape and have distinctive toothed margins This vigorous tree often develops small heavily scented cream flowers in the summer followed by catkins in late summer early autumn as well as edible nuts. They make excellent specimen trees or can be planted in woodland areas. Grows best in deep well drained, slightly acidic soil. Average eventual height 65ft.
