Abies nordmanniana (Nordmann fir)

Nordmann fir (well known for being grown as non needle-drop christmas tree) is a tall, majestic conifer with tiered branches. The needles are rich green with white beneath (giving the tree a slight silvery tint) and stay on the tree for up to 20 years. Long brown cones are produced amongst the foliage. Nordmann fir is a vigorous tree that creates a dense evergreen screen, making it an excellent choice as a windbreak. It grows best on neutral to acid soil. Average eventual height 60ft. Growth rate 9-12" per year

Abies grandis (Giant or Grand Fir)

Giant fir, as the name suggests is a larger, faster growing tree than the Nordmann Fir, but shares many characteristics including the dark green shiny needles, tinted silver beneath. Grand Fir has a more columnar shape, and the branches are less dintinctely tiered than on the Nordmann Fir.  Bright green cones are produced, that age to brown, and the bark is a smooth greyish brown.

Abies koreana (Korean Fir)

Korean Fir is a smaller variety of Abies, with a columnar habit. Again, the shiny needles have a silvery underside. Attractive and distinctive purplish-blue cones are produced even on young trees. Average eventual height: 30ft.
