Lucy’s news from the nursery:
This week has been a bit of a scorcher! ☀️Simon has been out early each morning getting everything watered before we open. Then throughout the day you will see dad (Andrew) & Simon damping down the perennials & smaller plants to help them cope with the heat. Our team have been busy potting up some of the plants into bigger pots to give them more space to absorb water & keep thriving. ???
We had the exciting arrival of our bees this week! ? Mum (Liz) has a hive with Queen Alexia ruling and I have a hive with Queen Hazel in charge. The colonies of bees seem very calm & are already making the most of the abundance of forage around the meadow & nursery. We currently have the Bug Hunt on for your little ones at the nursery, as well as the opportunity to go into the meadow and spot various creatures such as butterflies, dragonflies & grasshoppers. ????️
I am away this weekend being a bridesmaid at my best friend’s wedding in Kent so you won’t see me or Simon this weekend ❤️. Our journey down on the dreaded M25 was made more bearable with the addition of a super bright neon rainbow that followed us the whole way ?! We have had a few weddings this month & our plants have been used to decorate marquee across Oxfordshire. If you have your own event or wedding that needs a splash of green then why not consider hiring some of our trees, plants or barrels. Visit our website for more information.
This week’s highlights…crocosmia, salvias, rudbeckia, sedums, lavender, gaura, sunflowers & more!
Some jobs for the garden:
* Top up ponds & bird baths or put saucers of water on the ground during this hot weather for the wildlife
* Prune wisteria - all of the wispy growth
*Cut back herbs to keep them compact & fresh
Wishing you all the best
