News from the nursery:

Last week was Chelsea Flower Show which showcases many inspirational gardens. One of the highlights was called ‘No Adults Allowed Garden’. A garden designed by children, for children. It was an adventurous garden that took you on a journey though woodland, meadows & wetlands allowing children to explore the natural world around them. At the nursery we understand the importance of getting children outdoors, so work in partnership with local schools helping them fundraising or with gardening projects. We also have our seasonal hunts/trails around the nursery which allow children to wander in & out of the pathways, splash in puddles & look for the hidden letters. The prize is plant-based so allows their green fingers to thrive (we often hear of how children’s cactus they won in previous years have grown!).

This week’s DEEBEE is a Giant Himalayan Lily (Cardiocrinum giganteum) an unusual addition to any garden. It’s main outstanding feature is its giant flower stem that can grow up to 13ft tall! On top of the stem it bears racemes of trumpet-shaped, fragrant white flowers. Best grown in a shady sheltered spot in fertile soil.

If you are visiting this weekend you won’t see Simon or Lucy as they are at a family wedding but Andrew will be around to answer any of your gardening questions. The nursery has been restocked with lots of bedding, perennials & shrubs so you will find it easy to fill up one of our purple wheelbarrows.

This week’s highlights: Dahlias, hydrangeas, ferns, hostas, margurites, salvias, cosmos, cistus, delphiniums & more!

Some jobs for the garden:
* Add plant supports to your tall perennials & roses
* Plant up pots or hanging baskets with summer bedding or maybe some veg like chillies & tomatoes
* Feed your houseplants once a week throughout the growing season & check water levels now it’s heating up

Wishing you all the best
