Lucy’s news from the nursery:
Lots happening at the nursery this week in preparation for all the bareroot stock arriving! Soft fruit bushes & strawberries are ready to purchase at the top of the nursery (rhubarb Victoria & Timperly Early arriving next week). Why not try growing your own next year so you can make delicious treats like strawberry jam, gooseberry fool or blackcurrant cordial?
Some of our nursery team have become a ‘rose team’ this week. They’ve been pruning & labeling up some of the roses that arrived on Thursday (with more to follow over the weekend)…it takes a little while to process them as we have over 200 varieties!! If you have pre-ordered them they’ll be ready for collection or be sent in the post from Monday ?
Our rootball hedging & bareroot hedging should be with us towards the end of next week. We have the return of our Early Bird Hedging Offer…save 20% on rootballs or bundles of bareroot hedging* All quantities & prices are on our website for pre-order. November is the perfect time for planting as the ground isn’t too hard yet.
The meadow is now closed for a couple of weeks so we can prep for Christmas! It is going to be transformed into our magical Christmas Tree Forest towards the end of November ?. We are continuing our partnership with local primary schools this year so if you are with the PTA or do fundraising for your primary school please get in touch: fundraising@bunkershillgardenshop.co.uk. We will also be holding our Grand Charity Raffle for Mind & Restore again this year…any donations big or small will be gratefully received ?❤️ Katie from Katie Amanda Photography has announced a second date for mini Christmas photoshoots (see details below!) ?
This week’s highlights… Roses, Cyclamen, hellebores, pines, leucothoe, nandina, skimmias, violas, parrotia & more!
Some jobs for the garden:
* Prune existing native hedging from now throughout the dormant period to encourage bushy growth in the spring
* Prepare for the colder months by putting tender plants into the greenhouse or to a sheltered position. If you can’t move them then make sure you have some gardening fleece handy ready to cover them up if there is a cold snap.
* Prune your roses ready for them to put on strong healthy growth next year.
Wishing you all the best
