Lucy’s news from the nursery:
October is coming to an end with the grand finale being half term! For any grown-ups out their looking for a fun-filled spooktacular activity for their little ones then why not book to do our Pumpkin Hunt ? On each day during half term - book on our website. As well as the Pumpkin Hunt we have Straw-henge, Sydney the snail maze & the Famous Pumpkin Palace. All proceeds go to the mental health charities Mind & Restore. If the weather is a bit chilly you can warm up with a hot chocolate from the tearoom. We also have yummy muffins & a fresh delivery of Gingerbread Skeletons & Kinderella spiders created by Baked by Emily.
This week is the last chance for bulbs! ? It is nearly time to plant your tulip bulbs so you haven’t missed your chance yet this year. Our bulb tunnel is currently storing our selection of eating potatoes for £12 a sack (25kg) and this week we have the arrival of the Jelly potatoes (slightly more expensive than the others but delicious)! ?
As November approaches thoughts turn to the bareroot season. We have soft fruit, roses, fruit trees, ornamental trees & hedging arriving in the next couple of weeks. You can see our range on our website so you can peruse the information to work out which ones are best for you.
Our Scarecrow (or should we say Scarce Crow) Competition is looking a bit sparse with only Humpty Dumpty championing his school. In light of this we have decided to extend the competition until Xmas to showcase any last minute half term creations (entries can be made into November). You can also add a Christmas twist to convert them into a Christmas Scarecrow Spectacular. See more details on our facebook page.
This week’s highlights… Cyclamen, heathers, cotinus, euonymus, nandina, skimmias, pansies, hebes, pumpkins & more!
Some jobs for the garden:
* Create a bug hotel for creatures to hide in over winter. Ladybirds are starting to settle in for hibernation
* Lift any tender perennials or move pots into a frost-free environment
* Cut blackberry and autumn-fruiting raspberries that have borne fruit down to the ground
Wishing you all the best
