Lucy’s news from the nursery:
Bunkers Bulb Tunnel is filling up nicely, with the arrival of some new additions this week…the fritillaries, snowdrops, camassia, freesias, muscari & others have now arrived. You can mix & match our home packs…£4 a pack (5 for £18) or if you need bulk quantities we also have them in 100s or 250s. We also have large-flowering daffodils in 1.5kg bags for £5.50 (3 for £16) or if you are feeling very productive they come in 20kg sacks too! We have our bulb planting guide to help answer any bulb related questions you have & now have bulb fibre in stock again.
Our range of bareroot roses are now available to pre-order on our website for arrival in November ?. We have some lovely new varieties this year, such as Alpine Sunset, Lilac Bouquet, Tickled Pink, You’re my everything plus many more! You can choose your roses to collect from the nursery or we offer free Nationwide delivery.
The nursery team have been on a mission for the past couple of days, whizzing around the nursery creating space for a whole host of new plants. If you pop to the tearoom for a cup of coffee this weekend you will notice the new dwarf pine display as well as the autumnal shrub bed full of skimmas & nandina. We now have a full range of over 14 varieties of Japanese anemones, an array of unusual varieties of ferns, plus some very tempting heucheras with names such as Caramel, Buttered rum and Black Forest cake.
As the seasons change we say goodbye to some of our wonderful staff who go off to do exciting things like start university, so we are now looking for some new members of the team. We are looking for a Nursery Supervisor, part-time nursery person (would suit someone on their gap-year) plus seasonal staff for helping with the Christmas trees. Visit our Job Vacancy page for more information.
This week’s highlights… Bulbs, cyclamen, Japanese anemones, hellebores, dwarf pines & conifers, skimmia, nandina, pansies, wallflowers, sweet Williams, asters & more!
Some jobs for the garden:
* Keep deadheading roses to keep them going for longer
* Go blackberry picking - the hedgerows are bursting with fruit this year!
* Keep an eye on watering, especially for larger trees or shrubs with a canopy that stops the rain from hitting the ground below it.
* Research what bulbs you want to plant this year for a stunning spring display…maybe you want to create a pot display by using the ‘lasagne’ method of laying bulbs that have different flowering times.
Wishing you all the best
