Lucy’s news from the nursery:
Old Walter’s Meadow has been transformed this week with the arrival of Straw-henge, Sydney the snail maze & the Famous Pumpkin Palace. We have also welcomed back some familiar faces including Big Bertha & Tiny Tim, Moldy Mike & Smurfette. We do have some new additions to the Ugly Mug & Handsome Hero Parade with The Gruffelo, Keyhole Keith & Ooh Ahh Cantona…with more arriving each day ready for the half term parade. Booking for the Pumpkin Hunt needed for weekends & half term only (during the normal week you can just turn up). Visit our website for more details & to book. All proceeds go to the mental health charities Mind & Restore.
With the colder months approaching we are encouraging our customers to look after their feathered garden friends by providing them with fresh water & food. They particularly like the suet balls & you will often see various birds helping themselves to their favourite snack straight from the tins at the nursery (in fact the pigeons are getting rather heavy!). We currently have a special offer on our 20kg of wild bird seed at £15 a sack (75p per kg).
Calling all creative children (& grown-ups)…it’s competition time! We are looking for some Scarecrows to join our Scarecrow Trail over in the meadow on behalf of your chosen primary school ??. Each primary school that has 1 or more scarecrows made with receive a bundle of goodies worth approx £40 - including a waterbutt, 2 planter tubs, a bag of compost & 5 packs of seeds. Our customers will be able to vote for their favourite one and the ‘best scarecrow’ wins £100 voucher to buy plants for their primary school. The theme is children’s book characters (maybe a chance to recycle your outfit from World Book Day…).
To enter just email Lucy at fundraising@bunkershillgardenshop.co.uk, bring your scarecrow to the nursery & collect your scarecrow after the event ends.
This week’s highlights… Euphorbias, anemones, hellebores, pyracantha, skimmias, heathers, onions & garlic, Pumpkins, gourds, violas, pansies, polyanthus & more!
Some jobs for the garden:
* Cut back perennials that have finished flowers such as asters, erysimum.
* Deadhead, prune & tie in any climbing roses.
* Remove fallen leaves from lawn & pathways but leave on borders or create leaf piles for wildlife to overwinter in.
Wishing you all the best
