Lucy’s news from the nursery:

We hope everyone was ok during the torrential amount of rain that fell on Monday (& throughout this week)! The nursery is on top of the hill so we weren’t too badly affected but the surrounding areas have been flooded. Autumn is well & truly here now with the change in weather & the nights drawing in. You’ll see the nursery is embracing the season with the arrival of pumpkins & gourds that are adding lovely orangey colours to the autumnal displays.

With October around the corner our thoughts turn to our annual Pumpkin Hunt & spooktacular fun! It will run from the 5th Oct throughout the month - with booking needed for weekends & half term only (during the normal week you can just turn up). Visit our website for more details & to book. We are currently constructing the Pumpkin Palace & some new pumpkin-tactic creations. All proceeds go to the mental health charities Mind & Restore.

If you are thinking about growing-your-own fruit in your garden this year or you’re lucky enough to have your own allotment plot then our soft fruit plants are now ready to pre-order for November. We have a large selection of heritage & modern varieties of raspberries, currants, rhubarb, strawberries, gooseberries & hybrid berries. You can pre-order on our website for collection or nationwide delivery.

This week’s DEEBEE is a Japanese anemone, commonly known as a windflower. These dainty flowers are part of the buttercup family Ranunculaceae. These plants are a great addition to a garden as they provide late summer/autumn interest. They produce tall stems with delicate blooms in shades from white to dark pink. There are numerous varieties, some with attractive names such as ‘Dainty swan’, ‘Serenade’, ‘Pocahontas’, ‘Dreaming swan’ & ‘Wild Swan’. A useful perennial for a slightly shady spot in your garden.

This week’s highlights… Bulbs, pumpkins, garden mums, Japanese anemones, wallflowers, ajuga, hardy ferns, winter pansies, violas, heathers & more!

Some jobs for the garden:
* Clean your bird feeders ready for the autumn/winter feeding
* Plant winter bedding like wallflowers, sweet Williams, pansies & violas to offer you interest throughout the colder months
* Bring in any tender plants if the temperature is set to drop at night

Wishing you all the best
