Product Description
1 x bare root 2yr old plant approx 60-90cm tall
Acer campestre is a native British, medium sized tree that is good for tall hedges. The new leaves emerge with a flush of red, then turn a bright green over summer, eventually taking on vivid yellow and golden autumn colours. Small yellow flowers are produced in spring, followed by the distinctive winged fruits. Field maple coppices strongly and is suitable for hedges which can be clipped (prune in winter). Average height 6-10ft as a hedge or 50ft as an individual tree. Tolerates exposed and coastal conditions well.
Recommended planting distance: 5 per metre
Hardiness: Fully Hardy
Suitable for: Mixed native hedge, planting as a tree
Features: Autumn colour, native, wildlife friendly
Bare root plants: These plants can be planted anytime between November and March. We keep our bare root hedging in tubs of damp compost at the nursery. If you are not planting your plants immediately then keep the roots damp (preferably in compost) and out the sun until you are ready to plant.
We may prune 20% off the tops of your plants before sending. This will encourage strong bushy growth
