Aquilegias

Aquilegias

Aquilegias, also known as Granny's Bonnets or Columbines, are traditional cottage garden plants, with soft, rounded or fern-like leaves. The flowers are beautifully formed, and are produced in an array of colours from deep purples and dusky pinks to sky blue. They are borne on tall stems from May to June, and often have exquisite markings and long 'spurs'. They like sun or partial shade, so are quite at home in the dappled shade of a light tree canopy as well as in the border.
