Hazel is a quick growing, native plant with heart-shaped green leaves which turn golden yellow in autumn. It is excellent for hedges, either as a componant of a mixed native planting, or as a single species hedge. It can also be grown as a multi-stemmed specimen tree. Hazel bears attractive yellow catkins in late winter and early spring, alongside little yellow flowers, followed by edible hazelnuts in autumn. It is tolerant of most soils, and will thrive even in full shade. Average hedge height 5-10ft for a hedge, or 20ft for a tree
