Common name: Portuguese laurel
A dense evergreen shrub with glossy dark green leaves that are red-tinted when young.
Fragrant white flowers are borne on racemes in early summer, followed by red fruit ripening to black in July.
Average height 10-20ft in 10 years (if left un-pruned).
Recommended planting distance: 2.5ft-3ft apart
Hardiness: Fully Hardy
Growth rate: up to 2ft a year once established
Other features: Long lived, evergreen, dense, tolerant of many conditions
