Acer campestre (Field Maple)
Acer campestre is a native British, medium sized tree, that is good for tall hedges. The new leaves emerge with a flush of red, then turn a bright green over summer, eventually taking on vivid yellow and golden autumn colours. Small yellow flowers are produced in spring, followed by the distinctive winged fruits. Field maple coppices strongly and is suitable for hedges which can be clipped (prune in winter). Average height 6-10ft as a hedge or 50ft as a specimen tree. Tolerates exposed and coastal conditions well.
