Product Description
1 x bare root 1yr old plant approx 40-60cm tall
Flowering currant is an upright shrub with thornless branches and lobed leaves that have an attractive 'curranty' aroma. In May-June, pendant deep-red flowers cover the shrub, making a striking display when planted as a hedge. The flowers are followed by small blue-black berries. It makes an excellent informal hedge (trim to shape after flowering) or can be planted in a mixed border. Grows well in well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Average height and spread 4-5ft.
Recommended planting distance: 3 per m as a single species, or 5 per m as part of a mixed hedge
Hardiness: Fully Hardy
Suitable for: Single species hedge, part of a mixed hedge, specimen shrub
Features: Blossom and fruits, wildlife friendly
Bare root plants: These plants can be planted anytime between November and March. We keep our bare root hedging in tubs of damp compost at the nursery. If you are not planting your plants immediately then keep the roots damp (preferably in compost) and out the sun until you are ready to plant.
