Also known as Water Lily Tulips, Kaufmanniana tulips come in a limited palette but make up for this by putting on a show very early in the season. Their short stems make them perfect for rock gardens and the front of borders or containers. They look particularly nice when laid out in large groups. The pointed petals of the bloom open out when basking in full sun, making the tulip look like a water lily. If they are left undisturbed, they often naturalise.
