Product Description
1 x bare root 2yr old plant approx 40-0cm tall
Berberis thunbergii is a medium sized spiny shrub with small rounded leaves. The variety 'Atropurpureum' has attractive, deep purple-red leaves that turn a coppery colour in the autumn. In spring it bears small yellow flowers, with tints of red, followed by small shiny red fruits. Barberry will grow in any well-drained soil, in sun or partial shade (the best autumn colours are achieved in full sun) Barberry is ideal for creating a dense thorny hedge, and it's deep colour creates a contrast with other foliage. Average eventual height 3-5ft.
Hardiness: Fully Hardy
Suitable for: Mixed hedging, single species hedge, shrub
Features: Attractive leaf colour, thorny barrier
Bare root plants: These plants can be planted anytime between November and March. We keep our bare root hedging in tubs of damp compost at the nursery. If you are not planting your plants immediately then keep the roots damp (preferably in compost) and out the sun until you are ready to plant.
