Product Description

10 x bare root 3yr old plant approx 150-175cm tall

Beech is a native British tree that is ideal for creating hedges. It is deciduous but, when grown as a hedge, retains the its dry leaves throughout winter, creating an all year-round screen. Beech is tolerant of many soils, including chalk, although it doesn't like wet clays (where hornbeam may be a better bet). As a specimen tree, beech will reach an eventual height of 30ft+, but can be kept between 3-12ft if pruned as a hedge.  It can be planted in single or staggered rows, and either solely as a beech hedge, or mixed with other native hedging plants such as Hornbeam.

Recommended planting distance: 1ft (30cm) apart in single rows, or 5 per metre in a staggered row

Hardiness: Fully Hardy

Suitable for: Single species hedge, part of a mixed native hedge

Features: Easy to trim and shape, keeps old leaves over winter, autumn colour

Bare root plants: These plants can be planted anytime between November and March. We keep our bare root hedging in tubs of damp compost at the nursery. If you are not planting your plants immediately then keep the roots damp (preferably in compost) and out the sun until you are ready to plant.

We may prune 20% off the tops of your plants before sending. This will encourage strong bushy growth
