Product Description
1 bare root 1yr old plants approx 40-60cm tall
Alder buckthorn is closely related to common buckthorn but is actually thornless. It is a large native shrub with small star shaped flowers, followed by glossy black berries. The leaves are smooth edged. An excellent addition to a native hedge. Alder Buckthorn likes damp soils
Recommended planting distance: 5 per metre
Hardiness: Fully Hardy
Suitable for: Mixed native hedge, single species hedge
Features: Berries, good for wet soils, wildlife friendly
Bare root plants: These plants can be planted anytime between November and March. We keep our bare root hedging in tubs of damp compost at the nursery. If you are not planting your plants immediately then keep the roots damp (preferably in compost) and out the sun until you are ready to plant.
